Acropolis & The Pyramids                    see also Greece

Day 1 - Depart U.S. on overnight flight to Athens.

Temple of ZeusDay 2 - Arrive in Athens, where you will be greeted and taken to your hotel for check in. Afternoon on your own to explore many of its most popular sights.

Day 3 - Morning tour of Athens may not seem enough, but we will include highlights like the Temple of Zeus, the Acropolis and its museum.  In the afternoon we depart for beautiful Santorini on modern hydrofoil from the port of Piraeus.

SantoriniDay 4 & 5 - Santorini - Two days may not seem enough to enjoy this beautiful setting. This popular island is the remnant of a volcanic cone whose top was blown off. The inner coast around the caldera is a sheer precipice of more than 300 m drop at its highest, and exhibits the various layers of solidified lava on top of each other, and the main towns perched on the crest.

Santorini CalderaBeach sand color depends on which geologic layer is exposed; there are beaches with sand or pebbles made of solidified lava of various colors: the Red Beach, the Black Beach, the White Beach, etc. The water at the darker colored beaches is significantly warmer because the lava acts as a heat absorber. Ancient ruins are open for visitors.

Day 6 - Departure to Cairo via Athens. Check in at hotel and time on your own.

MuseumDay 7 - Full day tour of Cairo highlights, including the Pyramids and the Sphinx. We will also visit the fabulous Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, home of the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. It has 136,000 items on display, with many more hundreds of thousands in its basement storerooms.

bazaarWe will also visit
the colorful Khan El Khalili bazaar. The suq (which is the Arabic name for bazaar, or market) dates back to 1382, when Emir Djaharks el-Khalili built a big caravanserai (or khan) on this site. A caravanserai was a sort of hotel for traders, and usually the focal point for economic activity for any surrounding area. This caravanserai is still there, you just ask for the narrow street of Sikka Khan el-Khalili and Badestan.  Lunch is included.

Babylon FortressDay 8 - Tour of old Cairo, a section of town that contains the remnants of those cities which were capitals before Cairo. This area is home to the historic Hanging Church, the Roman-era Babylon Fortress, the Coptic Museum and the Synagogue of Ben Ezra. Evening dinner on cruising restaurant on the Nile with show.

Day 9 - Return flight from Cairo to U.S.
